First Quarter Moon in Libra: Intersections

The First Quarter square between the Sun and Moon asks: Have we set a course? Are we moving decisively on our chosen path?

In the midst of an intense eclipse season, this is problematic. When big changes are happening, how can we choose an individual path?

The First Quarter arrives with a set of intersections that preview some answers.

Let’s set the stage.

In about 4 hours, the Moon enters Libra to trine Saturn at 0 Aquarius and Venus at 5 Gemini, creating a Grand Trine in Air. We feel a breeze, the first whiff of a new idea or perspective.

In about 8 hours, Mars enters Aries. This is good news if you’re ready to stop slogging through swamps and DO something. But this Mars will stay in Aries for the next six months. We’ve got to get this right, embodying the best of its energy, clear focus, and impatience with bullshit.

When Mars enters Aries, he joins the Grand Trine and changes it to a Kite, with himself, appropriately, as the driving edge. Now our ideas are on Fire. We want to take action.

When the First Quarter arrives, about 6 hours later, the focus shifts to a complex T-square.

The Libra Moon is conjunct Juno. Both square the Sun, Vesta, and Mercury.

Mercury is combust. Thought and communication are colored by the Sun’s desire to nurture, protect, and conserve all we care about.

The Cancer group also squares Mars with Chiron. Here we see both the energy of direct action and its consequences.

This First Quarter offers these questions for the next months.

• Can we act decisively but also justly, safely, without violence?
• Can we allow ourselves to feel our emotions fully without being taken over by them?
• Can we expand our thinking, widen communication networks, and gain new perspectives without losing our way?
• Can we hold on to the best of the past while moving into a better future?

To focus on one question alone will be to miss the point and lose the chance to glimpse the emerging whole.

We look to the Libra Moon to find balance and inclusiveness in a time of great shifts.
