We’re still within the Full Moon phase. Aquarius looks firmly toward the future with clear-eyed conviction. It’s a matter of creating a compelling vision and putting it into practice.
Yet today we might feel an awareness of the losses change inevitably brings.
Mercury, already under the beams of the Sun, opposes Pluto. This is the Capricorn/ Cancer axis, which values tradition.
Pluto, though, carries an awareness of the need for deep change and the costs of ignoring it. Mercury feels a loss of influence along with its loss of visibility in the sky.
The Moon at 25 Aquarius maintains the futuristic vibe and is quincunx Mercury, saying, hey, look it’s gotta happen, just get with the program. Eris, the chaos goddess, at 24 Aries squares both Pluto and Mercury. They’re eager to point out the desperate needs around the world we must address.
The word nostalgia was created in the 1700’s to describe a kind of extreme homesickness. Now it often includes a longing for the past. Part of the root is the Greek algos (distress), the same ending we use for medical terms for pain. It’s real.
As we charge into the future, figuring out our roles, it’s ok to feel a sense of loss for what we had before. The familiar brings comfort even when we see and feel its limitations.
Different generations link memories to different items, icons, and experiences. The feeling is universal.
If you’re caught in moments of nostalgia today, appreciate the best of what you miss. Maybe there are ways to bring some of that forward into a more just and inclusive future. Whether or no, our feelings are there. That’s ok.
