The Last Quarter phase is a time for taking stock of where we are. We’ve reached the pivot between the Full Moon and the New. Do we need to take action to reach our goals? Now’s the time. Do we need to process and integrate what we’ve learned? Perhaps we do that first.
This Last Quarter opens with the Moon at 24º40’ Scorpio and the Sun at 24º40’ Aquarius. The Sun is conjunct Saturn, so the square from the Moon includes Saturn too. The Moon also trines Venus (21º47’ Scorpio) and Neptune (24º00’ Scorpio).
The two luminaries are in very different places. Neither is dignified. The Sun is in detriment in Aquarius and the Moon is in fall in Scorpio. Each sign is ruled by a malefic: Saturn for Aquarius and Mars for Scorpio. The modern rulers add more intensity: Uranus for Aquarius and Pluto for Scorpio.
Often, the final decan of a sign is a place of readjusting, reassessing, recalibrating. In Aquarius, we are disillusioned with the current structures of our world. In Scorpio, we struggle with our desire nature–can we have what we want, or does what we want have us instead?
What actions we take will depend on where we find ourselves. Perhaps our desires have become impediments and we need to focus there. Perhaps structures have outlived their usefulness and assessments are called for.
It’s interesting that within this phase, three events will address this square.
February 14, the Moon in Sagittarius opposes Mars. A Sag Moon is ready to move. Can Mars finally be shifted? Mercury has entered Aquarius and moves to trine Mars. We feel wind beneath our wings.
February 15, Venus reaches her exact conjunction with Neptune. Consciously connecting with this can infuse our desires with creativity. It can lift desires in spiritual ways. It can make sure our desires are aligned with our deepest values.
February 16, the Sun–Saturn conjunction is exact. Here the Ruler of Structure is renewed and illuminated by the Sun, our source of power and light. We won’t see Saturn in the sky again until early March, but at this meeting, they will gain the insights needed to move ahead.
