Crescent Moon in Cancer: Tenderness

We’re now seeing the slim, new Moon in the evening sky. If the skies are clear enough, you may also see a faint circle of the Moon’s fullness, an effect known as “earthshine.”

Tuesday morning, we reach the official opening of the Crescent Moon phase as the Moon forms a semisquare, a 45° angle, to the Sun.

This Cancer Moon is more emotional and more cautious than the Gemini energy of the New Moon, especially so since this Moon exactly trines Neptune in Pisces. We may feel exquisitely tender at this time, aware of every threat to those we care about.

The Sun also reaches into Pisces territory, applying to square Mars in Pisces. This happens at the same time as the Sun sextiles Chiron in Aries. Again, there’s an awareness of emotions and of emotional pain that might make even the brightest Gemini Sun pause.

At the Crescent Moon, we usually feel ready to dive in, take action, move forward. There can also be a sense of things unfinished from the past. Perhaps in this cycle, we feel the tug of our relationships. We cannot move forward until we know our loved ones are safe.

Throughout this waxing cycle after all we are still taking an underworld, inward journey with Venus retrograde.

We need to actively consider our circles of care, not only for the benefit of others, but because we ourselves need to feel cared for and loved.
