Tomorrow, we move into the Disseminating phase with the Moon in late Taurus. Our best stance is likely to be watchful waiting.
This Moon holds many conversations: square Venus, trine Mercury, square Saturn, conjunct Uranus, sextile Neptune, trine Pluto. The Moon is a messenger, a communications node, receiving from one place and sharing it on to another.
It’s best to remain alert but quiet in the midst of all of it. Saturn rules the third decan of Taurus. Here we encounter limitations and setbacks created either by our own hubris or the wider forces of fate.
The Moon is part of a Grand Trine in Earth with Uranus, Mercury, and Pluto. Abrupt change, careful consideration, and the inexorability of deep forces are all present.
Venus, squaring the Moon, brings more players into the conversation: trining the North Node and sextiling the South, sextiling Mars, trining Eris, and squaring Uranus.
All of this happens in the mid 20’s of the signs, from about 23 to 27º. This is the place to check your birth chart to see how you might be affected.
One association with the third decan of Taurus is apotropaic magic, the use of words, talismans, or ritual to gain protection. Four hours after we enter this phase, the Moon will conjunct Algol, considered one of the most dangerous stars in the sky.
“Algol” is an Arabic word for demon. In many cultures, this binary star that shifts from dark to light is associated with danger and difficulty, especially with the head.
In Greek mythology, Algol is associated with Medusa, who we generally meet as a monster, her head covered in snakes to turn men to stone. Yet Poseidon raped Medusa and then Athena blamed and punished her for defiling her temple. Medusa asked for none of this.
Perseus killed Medusa and brought her head back to Athena who place its image on a shield that offered the strongest apotropaic magic. This shield with the head of Medusa on its face was called the aegis, a word that now means protection.
In uncertain territory, in the presence of power, we remain attentive. Listening, not speaking. Absorbing all we encounter. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, feeling deeply the wonder and beauty of this world. And this Moon has the aegis. Here, we can be protected.
