Full Moon in Gemini: In Motion

Tomorrow before dawn, the Full Moon in Gemini arrives. This late November Moon will appear most full in the sky tonight and again tomorrow night. This is our last lunation of November and closes out a difficult month, astrologically.

With the Moon in early Gemini opposing the Sun and Mars in early Sagittarius, the keynote for the Full Moon is speed. The Sun and Mars entered Sag in the last few days, so we’re already feeling the surge.

After the intensity of Scorpio, fixed Water, we are beyond ready to get moving and get things done.

The Sun and Mars combine their heat and high energy to push and push hard. Sagittarius is the mutable Fire sign that wants to be over the next horizon or two in a flash. No sitting around, no stopping, just movement.

The Gemini Moon is fine with this. Here the focus is on ideas and language. Early Gemini is quick, clever, facile, and easily distracted. We’re scanning the landscape for ideas, people, possibilities, puzzles, whatever is shiny and new.

We live in a fast world. It gets to the point sometimes where whatever we’re doing must be completed quickly so we can get on to the next thing. This way of living has its excitement but takes a toll on us physically, mentally, and emotionally.

There are patterns in the Full Moon chart that remind us of the cost of going fast.

The Race Is Not to the Swift

The Sun, Moon, and Mars are separating from a square to Saturn that is definitely close enough to count. Saturn is the antithesis of speed, or at least, speed for speed’s sake. Saturn values planning, preparation, and diligence.

You might remember the Mars–Saturn squares we experienced during the pandemic, which often signaled the frustration we felt when we desperately wanted to get on with our lives and could not.

Saturn is at the beginning of Pisces now, not as strong or as organized as he was in Capricorn and Aquarius. Yet he’s still well able to check the enthusiasms of the Sun, Moon, and Mars.

This part of the Full Moon pattern speaks to the need to take care. Saturn in Pisces is concerned with things related to water, as well as things related to our dreams and our connection to the cosmos.

This is not a good Full Moon for taking chances on or around boats, water, or speed. Instead, we want to leverage Saturn’s presence to keep our maneuvers aligned with our deepest life purpose.

It’s best to plan ahead when Saturn is making his presence felt. But perhaps in the excitement of entering Sagittarius season, we’ve charged ahead. If we run headlong into a barrier, a delay, a “no,” then look to Saturn for the remedy.

Do we have a solid plan? Are we prepared? Have we done the prep work? If not, pushing ahead won’t help. It’s best to slow down and recalibrate with Saturn in mind.

Saturn is not the only challenge. Mercury, ruler of the Full Moon, is squaring Neptune in Pisces. This connection also interferes with our ability to move fast and reach goals. Mercury is not at their best in Sagittarius, since they rule Gemini, the opposite sign where we find the Moon.

The square from Neptune introduces the possibility of uncertainty, confusion, and fog (including literal fog). This Neptune square Mercury also holds the potential for misinformation and deception.

In the days around this Full Moon, be discerning. Understand you might not have the full picture. You might find yourself wandering into dream landscapes and off the path you were aiming for. Remind yourself not to latch on to dramatic claims or overblown promises that in the end will come to nothing.

Make Haste Slowly

So despite the push from the Sun, Moon, and Mars–and our own relief at moving on from the deep swamps of Scorpio–the best plan now is to breathe and slow down. As always, when Neptune is strong, it’s good to be aware that substances and situations might trigger us more easily than usual. Don’t overdo it.

On the up side, Neptune square Mercury opens doors into creativity, as well as spiritual and esoteric experiences. Creativity is enhanced by a Venus–Mercury sextile, an energized flow.

If you follow the fixed stars, you might also see that Spica at 24º10’ Libra is in an even tighter sextile with Mercury. Venus is moving close to Spica and will conjunct this most fortunate of stars in a few days.

This is an excellent time to find your flow states. Flow is a mental and also emotional state in which we feel completely immersed in what we’re doing. Flow states change our perception of time and allow us to dive deeply into focus. We lose our critical inner voices as we concentrate on the task at hand.

If you’re not ready to dive into the intense focus of a flow state, there’s always Ms. Frizzle’s motto: Get messy. Make mistakes. Give yourself permission to experience what comes your way, without getting frustrated if it doesn’t match your expectations.

It’s possible to engage in serious, focused activity around the time of this Full Moon, as long as we’re prepared to work with Saturn and Neptune in the process.

You Can’t Get There From Here

Another possible effect of Neptune square Mercury is confusion about the way. This is one more reason to choose to slow down.

If the need for speed takes over, we could easily find ourselves somewhere other than where we’d planned. This square creates a certain fogginess that can lead us astray, even when we’re heading somewhere we know well.

We’ve all had those moments when we thought we knew where we were, and suddenly realized we were somewhere else entirely. Getting lost can be fun when it’s intentional, and frustrating when we think we’re soon to reach our goal and can’t make it.

Exactly how this Full Moon shows up for us depends on a combination of our birth charts and our life circumstances.

If you’ve got a lot going on in Sagittarius and/or Gemini, you will definitely feel the energy of this Full Moon.

Are you sensitive to Neptune’s influence? Perhaps your Neptune is aspected by the Full Moon, or Neptune in the sky aspects something in your chart. If so, the Neptunian experience might come forward for you.

What about Saturn? If your chart presents a strong Saturn, or transiting Saturn is aspecting something important for you, then you might feel the more frustrating side of this Full Moon, being held back when you want to jump ahead.

What about both? Transiting Neptune and Saturn are making important aspects to my birth chart. I’ve already been paying attention to these aspects, as they have been in play for a while. I will not be driving fast cars or running around like crazy at this Full Moon.

Full Moons illuminate. Perhaps tomorrow’s Moon in Gemini will highlight where we get hung up on finding flow, or calibrating the best balance between planning and doing, or rest and action.

The Gemini Moon loves trying out new things. Tomorrow could be a good day to do things differently while holding the outcome lightly. It’s time to enjoy the ride at a pace that best suits us.
