Summer Solstice: Cloud and Shadow

posted in: Celestial Event | 0

Within the powerful astrology of this cycle, we find the Summer Solstice. The Sun enters Cancer, day and night are equal, and summer begins.

The Solstice doesn’t arrive until June 20 and I’m posting early to answer questions that came up about Solstice rituals this year. Can we hold them, given we’re in an eclipse time? And if so, when?

I’m offering my take on the Solstice chart, plus a chart for June 21 that offers a good window for ritual.

In the Solstice chart, the Sun trines Jupiter, which is good. Fortunate. Lucky, even.

The Scorpio Moon, though, forms a Grand Cross in the fixed signs as she opposes Uranus, squares Mars, and squares Saturn. Those born with this signature seem destined for power, with a steadfast dedication to their aims.

As an electional chart, though, it’s not one I would choose. The Moon moves from an exact square with Mars into a square with Saturn, suggesting anything we’d start at this time would face significant challenges.

Also, while the Moon is strong in the 10th House, so are Saturn and Mars in the 1st and 7th. The Sun, Venus, and Jupiter are in less prominent Houses.

For ritual, I’d wait until Monday, about 1:30 pm EDT. Now the Sun is conjunct the Midheaven, with Venus also in the 10th. Mars and Saturn are in less prominent Houses and not aspecting the Moon.

In fact, the Moon’s next aspect will be a trine to Venus, who is also trining Neptune, offering a lovely magical ambiance for a Solstice ritual and celebration.

While I’m new to electional astrology, I have been studying. I offer these comments on the charts as an aid to planning.

With regard to our upcoming summer, I’m thinking we won’t be comfortable being grasshoppers this year.

It looks to me like we’ll be getting a look at the real work needed to create positive change. We won’t want to wait too long to make a start.
